I signed up for a class.
On my own.
All alone and
By myself.
I’m a bit of an introvert you see,
with extrovert tendencies…
It seems that I will talk with anyone, and actually I do, but really I’m a scaredy cat who frets until I’m there and doing it.
Then I’m like.
Who are you? And what did you do with Deborah?
But not in that, Be gone from me Satan way.
In a good way.
I almost left the page, then I thought Do It! And so I did it.
It still makes my heart skip a little, but I’m sure there are worse things I’ll encounter.
Like my next trip to the dentist.
I also thought that as I’m pretty good at watching a video and picking things up through trial and error that perhaps I should save my money, but I think I really want to go mingle with like-minded people and see what happens.
Can’t be a hermit forever.
In other news.
The tank is back baby!

Anyway he soon got right to it and we made a couple more necklaces.
It’s like my old nan used to say.
The back should be as good as the front.
Could do with a little more work under that second leaf on the right though…
Yesterday I ruined my painting.
This is it started.
I haven’t got a photo of it ruined as my darn phone keeps telling me that I have no storage.
It never used to have this problem so I think it’s all just a dastardly plan to get me to buy a new one.
They think I don’t know about their dirty tricks.
It’ll probably work though…
And now I’m off to Austin to visit B, my eldest.
We are going to have a weekend of watching movies, doing some stitching,
I’ve still not finished this.

And just hanging out.

Yes, I live in San Antonio. I’m a Vivi Magoo retreat addict. I’ve attended the Art Retreat at the Prairie and the Art Retreat in the Desert for several years. It is a very special sort of retreat in that people get to know one another (even introverts which applies to me too) and it becomes like a family – but one where new members are always welcomed. Barb Solem and her daughter Erin are wonderful and always have great instructors lined up. I’ve taken many, many classes from Richard Salley and he is an awesome instructor. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me. Oh, and BTW, I love your work and love reading your blog!

That should be fun–your visit to Austin AND the class. I can usually get over my introversion to take a class, but then I can’t keep up because to see, I have to keep switching between near and far, glasses off, then on. As if I’m not slow enough to begin with! (And I would for sure be a bit intimidated by Richard Salley.) I’m sure your eyes are as dexterous as your hands, though, so you’ll do fine. Those are some SERIOUS clasps!
I know. They look tricky which is kind of exciting. I don’t know much about Richard Salley, (guess I should look him up), but I thought his work was more found objects, etc.. You can be sure, introvert or not, I’ll be right up front and center as my curiosity often gets in the way of my usual gentile (not) behaviour…
I’ve taken that class (all by myself, although it turned out that someone I knew slightly was also in the class). It will be fun. Richard Salley is not at all intimidating. You will be working, so you won’t be required to do too much chatting with your fellow students — and unless you’re a quick worker, you probably shouldn’t chat too much or you won’t get your clasps done! The clasps look tricky, but he has the process very streamlined, so it will seem much easier when you’re actually doing them.

Oooooh Richard Salley! If you’re going to break your vow of hermitage, that’s the place to do it! I’m sure it will be enjoyable–even if you’re surrounded by boring stiffs, you will still learn really cool stuff. And congratulations on another fiery explosion averted! You have the knack. Your new pieces are lovely–I love this airy style that you do. (I especially like the Ocean Jasper with the silver–ethereal!) You make me want to embroider–I have some really boring clothes I dream of embroidering but I really don’t know how and thread gives me fits. Rope is OK, but not the thread.

Progressive lenses! Three different distances in the same lens: reading, mid range like the tv, and distance like driving. All you do is slightly tilt your head. No lines on the lens. Not the trifocals of old.
I took 2 classes from Richard and Jessica Jordan (Rosy Revolver) about 4-5 years ago. You will LOVE him! I was a total newbie to using fire and was not intimidated in the least! Enjoy! Your newest pieces are simply breathtaking! Love them! Enjoy your weekend!
Oh that sounds like so much fun! I’m so envious of you. I love his work. You will be fabulous! I love how you put the tank right up front with you. hmmmmm. I put mine in the back. You are brave! Everything is looking good. I wish I had some people around here who are serious about their metal work and liked trying new things! My class at the Museum kind of degenerated into a snooze fest. I think maybe our teacher is uninspired. 🙁

I put it up front so I can hold it from rolling around. I figure when it blows it’ll hurt just as much in the back as in the front. Twice I’ve had my passenger hold it between their legs which I think is a little naughty in retrospect…
Gale13 I agree with Deborah Uher. Progressive lenses! you will able to see everything so much better. Might take a couple of days to get used to them but oh so much better!
I think that sounds like a great class (if really hard!) hope you have fun.
Me, again, to thank the folks who suggested progressive lenses–but I already have ’em! And they SORTA work for me in my classroom situation for just reading (as the teacher, I mean), but not for doing close-up jewelry work. I see really, really well for close-up work, and yet the Rx requires that 3rd part. Thus, off come the glasses. Arghhh.
